Several centuries ago, the Renaissance dawned on Western civilization. In more recent times, America has been a leader in making higher education available to the masses.
It's so reassuring when university students know the meaning of words like mandatory without having to be told the meaning immediately thereafter. Civilization triumphs again!

Here's a tid-bit from my trip back up:
In Kanab, the Wendy's marquis display read, "GOT CHILE".
No punctuation, so I assume it to mean that the franchise after all theses years, finally acquired the South American nation.
They would do well to put the little explanation right after the word.
Mandatory (that big word means "must attend") softball meeting.
